Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I wash my solar panels?
We recommend once a week to maximize output but the choice is up to you. The goal is to never let them get dirty.
When should I wash my solar panels?
Wash them early in the morning before they get hot in the afternoon sun. Cold water on hot glass can cause thermal shock and damage your panels.
Do I need to worry about hard water spots?
No, our unique filter media sequesters calcium, magnesium and iron, preventing
hard water deposits.
Will it work if I have very hard water?
The Sunny Wash Filter media has been tested and it is effective on water with up
to 500 mg per liter of CaCo3 ( 29.3 grains per gallon). Most community water
systems are far less than this. If you are unsure about the hardness of your
water please contact your water provider for their testing results. If you are on a private well you can purchase hardness test strips to determine your waters hardness.
How long will it last?
The Sunny Wash filter is designed to last 12 months under normal conditions.
This estimate is based on rinsing your solar panels once a week for 15 minutes at
10 gallons per minute water flow. We guarantee the effectiveness of our filter for
1 year.
I have never cleaned my solar panels, will it still work?
When you spray your solar panels for the first time with our Sunny Wash filter you will be amazed at how much dirt and debris it will remove. However, if you have never cleaned your solar panels before, it is likely that there will still be baked on residue that has accumulated over time. If that is the case we recommend that you clean your panels the first time by using a soft mop head to break up the debris as you rinse them off. Thereafter, you will only need to spray them off on a regular basis so they never get dirty again.
